Northern White Cedar Bonsai

Description
A northern white cedar bonsai photographed at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., on Ilford Delta 400 film with a Yashica 635. Isolated against a nearly white background, the tree’s compact canopy contrasts with the weathered, twisting trunk and exposed deadwood below. The high-key composition removes almost all sense of surrounding space, allowing the bonsai’s intricate structure, texture and sculptural form to become the entire subject.
