Description
A solitary water lily emerges from a field of broad lily pads, its luminous petals standing in sharp contrast to the dark water and surrounding foliage. Photographed from above with a Hasselblad 500 C/M and 120mm Makro-Planar lens, the square composition emphasizes the flower’s radial symmetry while the overlapping pads create a quieter pattern of rounded forms around it. The restrained black-and-white palette draws attention to shape, texture, and tonal contrast. A selenium-toned silver gelatin print of this photograph was exhibited at Gallery 44 in Toronto.
