Description
A minimalist black-and-white fine art photograph of pickerelweed emerging from still water, photographed on Ilford FP4 Plus film with an Olympus OM-1n 35mm film camera. The dark silhouettes of the slender stems and pointed leaves are mirrored almost perfectly in the water, creating an abstract composition of repeating lines, geometric forms and negative space. The high-key rendering reduces the scene to its essential shapes, blurring the distinction between the plants themselves and their reflections and giving the natural subject an almost calligraphic quality. This analog film photograph combines botanical photography, abstraction, reflection and minimalist black-and-white composition. The photograph was published in Black & White magazine.
