Magnolia Decay I

Description
The opening photograph in the Decayed Leaves series shows a saucer magnolia leaf in the early stages of decomposition. Much of the leaf surface remains intact, while irregular openings begin to reveal the fine network of veins beneath. Isolated against a black background, the familiar form of the leaf becomes a record of the gradual process that will ultimately expose its underlying structure. Photographed with a Hasselblad 500 C/M and 120mm Makro-Planar lens on Kodak T-MAX 400 film.
